Cape Disappointment State Park - North Head Trail — Sunday, Jul. 6, 2014

Southwest Washington > Long Beach Area
We hiked the 1.8 miles to the North Head Lighthouse with kids (age ranges 5-10 yo). There were a few muddy spots on the trail but not difficult to find a way around. The bugs were a bit annoying at first but with a little bug spray and a quicker pace we were able to move along without problem. The trail was beautiful and there were spots once we made it to a little higher elevation where we could see the Pacific ocean. We could hear the ocean as well which made the hike quite nice. It was a strenuous hike but our kids were pumped full of energy so they did quite well. The lighthouse at the top is another 0.25 mile hike from the end of the trailhead but well worth it. We also took the trail back to the campground and that hike went a bit slower but was mostly downhill so easier on the kids. It was a great workout and lots of fun. I'd recommend it as a day hike especially if you are camping at the state park (which is excellent).
