Park Creek Pass via Thunder Creek, Thunder Creek — Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

We saw a momma black bear and two cubs crossing the trail 20 feet ahead of us, just below Skagit Queen camp. The new bridge across Thunder Creek in that area is fantastic. We were pleased to find the trail in great condition, at least until the Upper Thunder Creek basin. Once past the switchbacks above the Skagit Queen powerplant ruins, there was somewhat heavy brush including nettles, hiding rocks and holes, and getting us very wet on the hike out. There was only one ford, of Thunder Creek just below Thunder Basin Horse Camp. Does anybody now what the ladder-looking-pole thing below Thunder Basin Horse Camp is?
