Puget Sound and Islands > Seattle-Tacoma Area
This is an Urban Walk thru two parks and around Silver Lake. Not the most scenic, but it does have some redeeming qualities. Brave the traffic and you can get some miles by walking in between these two parks, plus a nice little mile nature walk at McCullum Park and around Silver Lake on the way back. Start at Silver Lake Park in south Everett. This is a popular park with swimming, volleyball net, playground and Frisbee golf course. To get to McCullum, walk east on Silver Lake road, turn on A Sater road, walk a few blocks, then turn left on 10th. This takes you down to a big intersection. Cross a busy #527 and into a park and ride lot. The park is just past this. Go past the BMX track to the WSU extension offices. Check out the plant displays, then go past the yellow shed by the parking lot and start a nice nature trail thru the woods. There are little paths heading down to North Creek, and paths that cut everywhere. To make the loop stay on the main trail. After you finish, check out more of the park, or walk back to Silver Lake the way you came. When you hit Silver Lake road, turn on 119th and go down. Hit Silver Lake Dr. To make the lake loop, go right on Silver Lake Dr. past apartments and thru another little pocket park. Follow Bothell Evt. Hwy (#527) along the lake. There are some fishing piers and a nice wide sidewalk. Watch for the Silver Lake resident eagle, a more frequent sight in the winter. There are also cormorants and a few kinds of ducks. Turn right on a dead end street with a latte stand on the corner and follow the fence back to the parking lot. This is an especially nice walk on a crisp cold sunny day in winter. A good six miles for the whole thing. We ran out of daylight tonight, so missed going all the way around the lake and took the path thru the gate. (L on S L Dr) This walk, and other Everett area walks can be found in Hiking Snohomish County by Ken Wilcox.
