Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
Clouds starting to clear in late afternoon
I took a weekend trip out to Deer Park Campgound the weekend of August 16-17 with the intention of taking this trail from the campground to Obstruction Point. I only made it about 4 miles in before turning around due to fog completely blocking us in. At times it cleared, but only enough to see more clouds in the distance. I did do a short side trek up Maiden Peak to try and get above the clouds, but to no avail. Despite the weather the hike was amazing and I'd highly recommend it. Not to much traffic and very easy to get to once you are on the Olympic Peninsula. The trail itself is in great shape, and there was abundant wildlife around including butterflies. There is probably has less than a month of good weather left out here, so enjoy while you still can! More days like the one I got are on their way.
