Snoqualmie Region > Snoqualmie Pass
A fogged in Snow Lake
Started an afternoon hike to Snow Lake and was surprised to see so many vehicles in the parking lot! It was insane especially for a week day, never the less we jumped out and began hiking. Despite the parking lot being full we only passed maybe five groups of hikers. As we began the hike the weather volleyed between sunny and cloudy quite often. We would roll up our sleeves to cool off and pull them down a few minutes later just to warm up. The trail is in fantastic shape, it's easy to follow and marked very well. I've done the first part of the hike a few times before but we were always shut out by a torrential downpour or being unable to find the trail due to snow so this is the perfect time of year to make the climb it seems. We reached the trail fork in good time and began going up the switchbacks with no hesitation. As we neared the top it was still sunny on the south-west side of the mountain but as we crossed over to the north-east side we could see a blanket of fog. At first I was worried we wouldn't be able to see the lake we had hiked all this way for but we caught glimpses through the fast moving fog. As we descended into the valley the fog began to lift and we were excited to see more and more of the lake becoming visible. We ventured by the old remains of a house (?) and thought how wonderful for the people that use to sit just beside the lake and marvel at it's beauty. We then crossed the small river and hiked a little further to settle on a high rock and play some tunes on a little harmonica we brought as the wind took the rest of the clouds out of the lake. When we decided it was time to trek back we had no more than reached the top of the ridge to see the fog had returned to engulf the beautiful lake once again. This added all the more mystery and appreciation for this exquisite place that we hope to return to in the coming years.
Clouds slowly retreating off the lake as we descend.
The little harmonica we brought along.
The clouds coming in once again to swallow the lake.
