Snowgrass Flat — Friday, Sep. 5, 2014

South Cascades > Goat Rocks
looking across Snowgrass flats to Goat Lake
We went in at the Snowgrass flat trailhead, hiked to the alpine area and took the Lily Basin trail to Goat Lake where we spent the night. The next morning we hiked out on the Goat Ridge trail to the Berrypatch trailhead and walked the road back to our car in the Snowgrass Flat parking lot. Beautiful 2 days, weather was perfect, except for the evening wind that tried to blow us away. The trail was in good condition, but we did have to step around a lot horse poop! We saw Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams from the trail and had stunning views of Mt. Rainier at the lake. There were 2 herd of goats at Goat Lake for a total of about 20 animals, loved watching them graze on the hillside across the lake! Flowers around the lake were in full bloom! Berry's down lower were mostly gone. Great hike!
