Hurricane Hill — Saturday, Nov. 8, 2014

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
We Started out from home early in the morning under fairly dense fog wondering if we would be able to actually see the mountains when we completed our 4 hour drive. We took the beautiful Hwy 101 up through Hoodsport. Hood Canal was peaceful and beautiful with low lying clouds. Getting into Port Angeles at around 1 pm and hit the Visitor/Ranger Station at the bottom of Hurricane Ridge Road for information about the trails. The drive up the mountain was spectacular and we stopped several times for some great picture taking opportunities. So we reached the Hurricane Ridge Visitor center around 2 pm. We had some excellent views of the mountains. Mt Olympus did not disappoint. Such a bright clear day. After some hiking around the trails near the visitors center we pushed on down the winding hill beyond to reach Hurricane Hill Trail at nearly 3:30pm The trail was great, no snow at least for the first 3/4 mile. The sun was beginning to set so we only did about 3/4 of a mile. There was quite a few people on the trail but we were able to keep our distance for the most part. I can imagine it in the summer. This would be a trail that attracts many of tourists, hikers and non hikers alike. This is a great trail for families with little ones. No loose rocks, shale, roots or narrow trails. With proper supervision this would be a great first experience to hiking for little ones. With a great visual pay off.
