Dry Creek — Sunday, Nov. 16, 2014

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal

The gravel road to the trailhead is full of potholes, be prepared to go slowly. We started off on the trail on a sunny, cold morning and were rewarded with gorgeous views of Lake Cushman and Mt. Rose on the first mile. The rocky trail was dry and leaves crunched underfoot, sometimes obscuring loose rocks. There were lots of icicles dripping from the moss covering the huge glacial rocks, very beautiful. As we ascended for the second mile we were prepared for an uphill grunt and that's exactly what it was. There were branches, some large, down on the trail from recent wind storms, but not impassable. The trail finally leveled out and we found Dry Creek - dry, just a trickle. We crossed it and ate lunch in the cold, then descended without seeing any wildlife. A well marked, pretty hike.
