Staircase Rapids — Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Four kids, ages 2, 3, 4, and 5, three dads, and one grandma headed up the staircase trail on a beautiful winter day. The dirt road is pretty rough in spots with deep potholes, but I think still passable for any cars. The trail is in great shape, and the bridge up river has been rebuilt. There's some ice on the first bridge and in spots on the trail, but nothing that really impairs movement. Hiking back on the other side of the trail, a few branches and trees covered the trail in a spot, but nothing a four year old couldn't handle. The kids loved the million shades of green moss, the tree bridges, the giant cedars, and the mushrooms.
