Trip Report

Mount Townsend — Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015

Olympic Peninsula > Hood Canal
Mt Rainier
Arrived at the trailhead at 0800. Two other cars in the parking lot. Pleasant hike to the top. Sunny and cool with a slight breeze. Hiked to the summit and then continued along the ridge to the north and turned around. Beautiful conditions. The bright sunshine more than compensated for the breeze and cold. Recommend a warm hat, gloves and no shorts! Relatively cloudless to the east; Seattle, Mt Rainier, etc. Passing clouds frequently obscured the Olympic ranges to the west. All in all beautiful conditions. Many people coming up as I was going down. At 1400 the trailhead parking lot was full and cars lined up alongside the road. Great to see folks getting out and enjoying the great weather.
