Trip Report

Fishtrap Lake - North and South Loop — Saturday, Mar. 7, 2015

Eastern Washington > Spokane Area/Coeur d'Alene
Destination reached, at Fishtrap Lake
What a wonderful and gorgeous day to hike! There were the tiniest little flower blooms starting to show up, yellow and white. The fire that swept through last year has cleared all of the shrubbery and underbrush allowing great access to the coulée rock walls; excellent climbing and scrambling material. Saw an eagle or maybe a hawk near the lake. Also saw the beaver or muskrat swimming near its home at the lake. My boys who are 9 and 10 came up with 9 different "worlds or lands" they created while on the hike. To name just a few: prairie land, canyon land, "cotton" (aka cat tails pulled apart) land; forest land. There were some rocks at the top of a coulée that looked like a lions face, my kids pointed out. A quick scramble to the top to explore was needed to scout it out. So the joy for me is twofold, being outdoors in nature taking it all in and seeing my kids' imagination soar as they explore and experience nature for themselves.
