Wife and i pushed the 10 miles to Nine Stream this weekend. It was a pleasant hike with quite a few people out, until you hit Big Log camp and most of the people disappeared. We made our way through to Nine Stream camp in about 5 hours, stayed the night and headed back early the next day.
A few notes from the trip:
1. Past Eight Stream there are quite a few blow downs. They are passable, but can be a challenge with big packs.
2. My wife and i saw 2 black bears about a quarter mile from Nine Stream. A sow and at least 1 cub. They weren't in the least bit interested in us and kept moving away up the hill when they saw us, but it was a cool thing to see. Also, upon entering Nine Stream camp by the group fire pit, the trees on the left have A LOT of bear scratch activity. Looks like people hang their food there but the bear wires are farther up the trail past the grassy area... or maybe the bears just like to scratch those trees, who knows.
3. The elk sign was insane from Camp Pleasant all the way to Nine Stream. I was hoping to see a few, but no dice. From what i could tell they'd been through that morning though, and there were a lot of them.
