Appleton Pass — Thursday, May. 7, 2015

Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
Boulder Creek Falls
Our goal for the day was to hike 4.3 miles to Boulder Falls. At 2.3 miles the suspension bridge across Boulder Creek has bee closed due to falling rock damage so we were routed over the log footbridge, which caused some anxious steps by a couple in our group. From the BC campground we found the trail to Appleton Pass. This took us through a beautiful area of old growth and mossy trees plus a large area of blooming skunk cabbage. Where the trail crossed Boulder Creek again, the trail has been washed out, so we scouted around upstream and found a temporaty footbridge to cross on. We easily found the trail on the other side and proceeded to the waterfall. The waterfall is worth the trip. Water clear and the creek full with lots of misty spray and deep fishing holes between cascades. Had lunch here and walked back out. Highly recommend this hike. Later this summer I am sure the creek will be easliy crossed without finding a footbridge.
Suspension bridge closing notice.
Crossing the old log bridge over Boulder Creek at Oly Hot Springs.
