Hiked to this beach over the weekend. My earlier impression was that this beach is just a poor man's Shi Shi.
That is not the case though, this one has its own little charm. Personally, I found it as good as Shi Shi if not better.
We reached the parking lot very late, at about 5 pm. The TH is only about an hour from Lake Crescent, the trail is in excellent condition, and the beach is only about 20 minutes out from the trail head (Compare that with Shi Shi - almost couple of hours from Lake Crescent, trail is typically muddy, beach access is about an hour from trail head). Moral of the story is that the return on investment for this hike is very high. Which is why it was surprising to not see many cars in the parking even on this beautiful evening.
We reached the beach by about 5:30 pm and enjoyed a nice couple of hours at the beach. Unfortunately, could not wait there till sunset. We left at about 7:45 pm but by that time, the colors were already wonderful. Sure the handful of photographers there at that time would have got some nice shots.
Net net: Highly recommend this beach if you're looking for a picturesque, pristine, yet calm & quiet place that can be reached at without breaking your legs and knees.
