Tonga Ridge to Sawyer Pass and Fisher Lake
We came at this from the Deception Creek side of the Tonga Ridge trail, apparently the far less traveled route up to Sawyer pass. The first mile coming up was a steep elevation on a hot day, but there is enough forest to allow for shady breaks from the punishing sun yet enough sunny clearings to let the spring flowers thrive. The trail is reasonably well maintained up until the meadows at the pass, signage at the pass is limited and there are many confusing trails. Adding to the hesitation at the turn for Fisher Lake is that you almost turn back on your direction so the correct way ‘feels’ a little wrong. There are orange and pink tags marking the less obvious sections of the trail at this point and at times the trail is a bit of a scramble, once you crest the rise and begin dropping into the lake’s basin the trail again becomes clear and the lake is soon within view. Frogs and bugs were very prolific, humans very rare on a beautiful Sunday in Washington.
