This was a lovely walk through the woods with peak-a-boo views of Mt.Baker all the way. We were looking for something with very little elevation gain and this fits the bill nicely. We went to Maple Grove campground and had the trip basically to ourselves. We passed two groups of overnight backpackers on their way out, and were disappointed to smell fresh campfire on the beach when we arrived at the campground. Some USFS rangers arrived at the beach as we were ready to head back down the trail and let us know that they were checking out reports of fires overnight.
This was definitely a great hike and driving over Baker Dam makes getting to the trailhead a great experience. We will consider coming back to do this as one of our first overnight backpacking trips when we finally get up the courage to do it!
