After a rough road up we hit the trail head, equipped with poles, good hiking boots and the usual stuff. We discovered that, after the recent rains, the trail was quite muddy, root ridden and challenging. The ascent seemed longer than we had anticipated and in some places very slippery and treacherous. Poles are a must as we found ourselves slipping even while equipped with decent hiking boots. If you are physically challenged or have health problems, don't even attempt this hike. My friend and I are in very good physical shape and actually, verbally exclaimed these words,
"Are you kidding me?" (When faced with what seemed to be a mudslide as part of the trail). Still, if you are in good shape and have the desire to experience this hike, it is very unusual and beautiful. Warning! There are several trails that fork off of this one, make sure to stay on the main trail. Pay attention to markers, etc... The trail allowed climbs up through deep forest, and is decorated with loads of mushrooms, agates, frogs and streams that are easily crossed. Two small lakes will be on your right but continue on and stay to the left, to reach your destination. Pinnacle is a beautiful lake, surrounded by flora, and gorgeous peaks with flat rocks to sit on for a rest and lunch. Our descent was slippery, be careful and make sure your feet are planted and your poles are set. Its a dirty day hike but a great workout and a rare beautiful experience. Carry on.....
