Trip Report

Heather Lake — Friday, Dec. 25, 2015

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
First hill on Gravel road was a little difficult to climb but after that we went 3/4 of the way up to the trail head and park. Glad we did not attempt to go all the way as several 4WD vehicles got stuck since snow was deep and later in the day the snow turned slushy. It becomes one lane at that point so not easy to get around someone else that is stuck. Trail is completely snow covered but most of the way is packed well and was able to walk the distance with boots only. Was not able to reach the lake as snow was waist deep and was constantly break through the trail and sinking to my waist. I would recommend snow pants and snow shoes if you are wanting to get to the lake. Trail is very narrow near the lake. It was very beautiful and many fallen trees that you have to duck/crawl under.
