Trip Report

Maple Creek Loop Trail — Monday, Feb. 15, 2016

North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
This trail has a pretty permanent sign saying that it is closed! We drove up 542 into Maple Falls, took a left on Silver Lake Road and found the trail head very easily, but then saw the sign. Hoping for another way in, we kept driving down Silver Lake Road and came upon Silver Lake Park. It doesn't seem to be connected to the Maple Falls area at all, but it was still possible to get out and tromp around in the rain. Not knowing the park, we asked a groundskeeper who was very helpful and got us a map of the park. Though several pieces of the trails around the park were under water, we still found paths away from the paved road and the parking. Of course, on such a wet winter day we only saw a few other people. Although disappointed with not being able to take the Maple Falls hike, we did enjoy some very bright mossy trees and the hospitality of the park.
