Fantastic hike! If you're looking for something off remote and you want to be alone all day, this is your trail. It was very easy to find, had plenty of parking, and aside from the numerous obstacles, it was a clam and pleasant hike. Please note that there were many obstacles on the trail including large downed trees, landslides, rockslides, and a swift stream. Be prepared to get creative and likely wet in order to complete the hike. We stopped at the 4.5 mile mark. The trail was washed out by a flood and a large amount of downed trees, so it was obvious where the half way mark was. It looked like you could continue, but again would likely need to get creative.

Devil's Gulch

Hi - My girlfriend and I were thinking about backpacking along this trail this weekend. You mentioned some obstacles but that they were passable, can you elaborate a little? Also, the hike is listed as 9 miles round trip and you mentioned that you stopped at the 4.5 mile mark. would you say that you were able to complete the entire hike then?

thanks for the help!

Singletronz on Devils Gulch

Hi Ryan,

The obstacles included large downed trees that weren't safe to climb over (I.E. needed to find a way around it), land/rock slides, and a swift stream. The stream was the toughest of all of them. We used a downed tree and rope to get across, but we all took some on water in the process.

From what I understand the Devil's Gultch trail is 7.9 miles long. People just commonly stop at the 4.5 mile mark which would make it a 9 mile hike instead of the full 15.8. So in that sense, yes we did complete the entire 9 mile hike, but not the entirety of the trail.
