Trip Report

Barclay Lake — Sunday, May. 29, 2016

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
We monitored NOAA by the hour till they predicted clearing skies. Barclay Lake was a perfect start of the season hike, as described by WTA. Yes, the Forest Service Road is potholed but not impossible. Take it slow. The parking area was almost full, though even at noon, two spots were open. A special thank you to the Forest Service Ranger for a thorough cleaning of the privy. Always good to have quality facilities at the trailhead. This was the end of several rainy days and so the trail was wet. Wet, mucky, and slippery. Still not impossible. We took it slow and made it to the lake and back with no incidents. The campsites at the lake edge were in good condition and as we hiked out, a couple parties were heading in for an overnight. WTA has been busy, preparing the trail and extending the bridge railing. This is a high quality, family-friendly hike. It is also a popular hike for families with dogs. Let's continue to keep this place beautiful (making certain to pick up the poop and haul it out.) One suggestion for WTA & Forest Service: if you piled appropriate material at the trailhead, I'd be willing to haul in a small bucket of mineral soil or gravel to help prevent bushwhacking around wet areas. Could we all work together on this?
