Hiked this trail yesterday with a friend- beware, there is still PLENTY of snow. This is not hikable in tennis shoes or sandals. Microspikes/crampons and an ice axe are definitely recommended- this qualifies more as an alpine scramble vs standard hike. Once we got out of the woods a little less than a mile from the summit, we ascended the steep snowfield up to the summit and encountered other hikers who mentioned they've never seen this much snow still present this late in the year.
In addition, there was a very curious, very salt-desiring herd of 5 mountain goats up at the summit. A baby was also in tow. Be extremely careful! We had one adult follow us down the trail as we descended for maybe a tenth of a mile.
