Sherman Peak Loop — Tuesday, Jun. 21, 2016

Eastern Washington > Okanogan Highlands/Kettle River Range
Sherman Peak Loop.
Beautiful hike today on the 6 mile Sherman Peak Loop out of the trailhead at the top of Sherman Pass. Based on the log this trail gets a lot more visitors than most in the Kettle River Range, but I still only saw one other couple on the hike. Loved the solitude. This trail starts on Kettle Crest South (stay right first split) and crosses SR 20 early on. The gentle climb will take you to a junction at the creek, stay left. This will take you on a loop which will drop down to the trail on the right and then you will head back the way you came. After the creek turn off there is one more split on the loop, but it is very oddly marked (see photo) so you can't miss it. I feel like someone missed this junction once and never let it go. Just stay right. The Sherman Peak Loop is an easy grade that takes you past talus slopes, the White Mountain burn area, up the ridge, and then back through meadows to Sherman Pond. The views are amazing and the trail is interesting, just brace for the blowdowns. There are many. Mountain biking could be a challenge.
Just go right.
First talus slope after the creek.

Not a problem. There is definitely a need, so I am doing what I can to help. Hopefully others will keep posting as well so we can all stay updated on the road and trail conditions.
