Trip Report
Slab Camp Creek and Gray Wolf River — Saturday, Jun. 18, 2016

Arrived shortly before noon to find two other cars parked. But I hiked to the Gray Wolf River bridge and back without encountering anyone else, until our return to the car at about 4:30 when we found someone just getting ready to head out. There had been a horse or two who had traveled this trail recently and churned up a few soft spots. We got rained on most of the way back. Also began having a feeling of something 'out there.' When the dogs and I reached the point where you can see across to Gray Wolf Ridge, Bambam acted like he saw or heard something and wanted to leave the trail. It was a little creepy to think there might have been a cougar out there checking us out. I was glad to have my trusty big dogs with me. If you hike this one with small children or dogs keep them close by!
Apart from that, the trail is quite nice and in good shape for the most part. The rhododendrons are beautiful though almost finished, plus lots of trillium and even some tiny wild roses. This was a challenging hike for me as I don't get out very much. But still it was a good afternoon with my furry friends. And it gave me a feeling of accomplishment -- plus an excuse to have a nice soak in the tub when I got home. :)
