Went out to McAllister Camp for my first backpacking trip of the season. About 7 miles one way.
We left the parking lot at around 2:30 Friday afternoon and arrived at camp at 5--not bad time when you're carrying a 40 pound pack ( what can I say? I NEEDED to bring my DSLR and 1000 page book).
It was drizzling all day Friday and on and off through the night, but Saturday was pleasantly partly cloudy.
All the blow downs up to that point have rececently cleared and there was only one muddy spot to be crossed. Several stream crossings, but all were easy--and obviously had trails built through them via some pretty solid rockwork (you know you do a lot of trail work when you stop to take photos of this).
Overall I had an awesome time and this was the perfect hike to get me into the swing of things for summer backpacking season.
