Trip Report
East Fork Foss - Necklace Valley — Sunday, Jul. 3, 2016
Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
This was our first trip out into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. Started the trail at 7:00 A.M. and passed about two people on the way into the first campsite at ≈5mi. About 3 miles the trail becomes dense with Devil's Club, Salmonberry, and eventually stinging nettles (wear pants and long sleeves) There were two other groups at the first campsite but we were able to find a spot next to East Fork Foss R. After setting up we decided to take on the vertical part of the hike. It starts off with two log bridges that cross the river and immediately into Bald Eagle Peak's scree. The rocky areas are intermittent but do slow things down a bit. We got up the 2500+ft. taking pictures along the way. Lots of blueberries and huckleberries to nibble on along the trail but be sure to have enough water for the ascent.
