Merritt Lake and Lost Lake — Wednesday, Jul. 27, 2016

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East
Molly
Husband, Molly the Yorkie and I did an overnight to Merritt and Lost lake. There are some steep spots but for the most part the hike to Merrit is a pretty moderate hike. We did not stop long at Merritt, just a quick water break and moved on as we were bound for Lost Lake. Now, I said the hike to Merritt was moderate and the hike up to the crest before you start down to Lost IS moderate but there the good trail ends and an extremely steep, rocky, rooty trail with lots of blowdowns right on the trail begins, and that is just the top part. This is what they call a "fisherman's" trail, just straight down the mountain with no switchbacks! The bottom half was even steeper and somewhat dangerous but we perservered and finally, after an hour, made it to the bottom. Molly did great, she loves to bushwhack!! :)) We found a campsite right by the lake, it was a gorgeous afternoon and evening, sunny and warm. There were some mosquitos but they weren't too bad that evening, worse the next morning but that's the price you pay for that kind of gorgeous!! The hike out the next morning wasn't too bad although we couldn't find the trail and ended up making our own until about half way up when we finally found it. Took a little less time to hike back out, about 45 minutes, difficult but doable. Molly loved it of course!! Lovely weekend!!
