North Cascades > Mount Baker Area
The red patches of blueberries are probably the best shot that I got today.
We got a little confused with the driving directions around when we had to get on FR-37; more simply, you just want to turn on Glacier Creek Rd when you see the street sign (and immediately turn left on FR-37). The forest road is a little rough, especially towards the end, but I've seen much worse. After all this excitement, we started our hike around 10 AM. While the ridge has its ups and downs, all things said and done, most of the elevation happens within the first section of the hike. Unfortunately, ridge was covered in fog and we couldn't see anything in front of us when we got there around 11:20. We continued our advance up to the far end of the trail and hung around long enough that it cleared a bit, but still not enough to see Mount Baker's summit. The blueberry patches have turned completely red and make for interesting colors. I know that this place would be amazing on a clear day. It's my second hike there and both times have been pretty cloudy; there seems to be a pattern that afternoons are better than mornings, so I would advise that you do this hike later in the day (perhaps starting around 1 PM).
