Sumas Mountain - Gold Mine Trail — Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016
Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
MUDDY! Found the trailhead with no problems at all. We may come back to this trail in the spring or summer as today was STORMY!
There are a lot of trails along this hike. We continued on the trail right of the first cabin sign, around the first mine across from the creek, past the camping area and crossing, up towards Lost Lake, where we ended up looping around to the cabin. Ran into a pair of friendly hunters and the really nice outhouse before turning back towards the camping area. From there we headed up the trail where Jeffs Lookout sign was pointed. It went straight up. Difficult to do in as much rain as there was today. The ground was incredibly saturated. Ended up turning around and back down, where we ran into different trail than we started! No clue how that happened. We ended our hike looping back towards the safe and ore cart, but sadly didn't reach the other 2 mine entrances.
Made it back to our vehicle logging in a total of 7.7 miles of wandering!
