I hiked this with 3 other friends. About 3/4 of the way to the lookout point over the falls, 2 of them turned back. The trail was hard-packed snow, and in many areas, it was basically ice. I was wearing hiking boots and I fell a couple times and intentionally slid a couple other times. It is possible to do this hike in current conditions with normal hiking boots, but it would be ideal to have microspikes or carbide-tipped poles.
The trail was also incredibly busy, probably because of New Years :) we had traffic jams on the trail, and never didn't see other hikers! Not an introvert hike.
