Dungeness National Wildlife Refuge - Dungeness Spit — Monday, Jan. 2, 2017
Olympic Peninsula > Northern Coast
The spit is a popular summer spot, but I highly recommend it in winter on a sunny day! It was very cold, and wind chill was a factor. Wear some mid-rise boots at least for damp sand. During the winter months, the Keeper House at the end is fully staffed, and they will give you a free tour of the lighthouse! Totally worth it. Terrain is sandy/gravelly, so it can be hard on ankles. Tide was not a factor. Views were spectacular of Victoria BC and Mount Baker.
