Trip Report

Shaw Island — Friday, Dec. 30, 2016

Puget Sound and Islands > San Juan Islands
Spotted a relatively warm sunny mid-winter day on the calendar and put together an impromptu trip to Shaw Island to car-camp at the South Beach County Park. We had the entire campground to ourselves and picked the best campsite with a water view. This campground wins the award for Best Toilet Decor (see picture). Spent midday reading and soaking in the rare sunshine on the beach below. Spent the afternoon hiking in the neighboring preserve and caught sunset from the Cedar Rock Preserve (UW Biological Preserve). Spotted numerous deer, eagles, seals, and birds. Cedar Rock Preserve has endless trails along the water and fascinating historic homestead structures. We will be returning to this place again and again.
