Trip Report

Snoquera Falls Loop — Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410
Snoquera Falls Loop by trail slalom
Made this hike today with four other ladies and two dogs (on leash.) The weather was great and we all used microspikes or Yak Traks, which made the snow covered and often icy trail much easier and safer to navigate. Be careful at the Falls itself as the snow and ice are thawing and you can see huge chunks of ice that have fallen from the frozen falls and tumbled down the hill. definitely don't want to get hit by one of those. Word of warning. The short road up to the parking area is snow covered and very icy. I made it up with my 2WD in low gear, going slow to maintain traction. Also, there was a large group camping outing at Camp Sheppard today. There wasn't much room for the campers up at Sheppard so they pretty much commandeered the trail parking lot, which was full to capacity and we had to park along the downhill drive when we arrived at the trailhead at 9am. If you are planning on going here tomorrow, you may have difficulty finding a place to park.
