Trip Report

Two Dollar Trail, Fragrance Lake — Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2017

Puget Sound and Islands > Bellingham Area
My goal was to drive all the way up Cleator Road to the Rock Trail and visit Lost Lake, but the gate up Cleator Road was locked at the Two Dollar Trail, and I didn't have the time to add 5 miles roundtrip. The gate sign says that it's closed due to snow, but there's definitely no snow. I decided to stay and hike to Fragrance Lake, because I didn't have maps downloaded and without service I wasn't sure of where I needed to go for the next shortest approach to Lost Lake. Two Dollar Trail is 1.7mi each way, with an optional 0.75mi loop around Fragrance Lake. The trail is in good condition, with just two tree blowdowns that require ducking/hopping over. It's not the most spectacular trail, but good for a quick outing close to Bellingham. Hiking fast, I was up, around the lake, and back down in 1hr15 for a total of about 4.2 miles & ~500 feet of net gain, with a little up-and-down.
