Mohawk Falls and Mohawk Mine — Saturday, Apr. 22, 2017
Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - West
My wife and I took this found this trail on WTA and decided to give it a go. We had a lot of fun, and would definitely recommend it.
We followed the directions of other reviewers to find the trail. 99% of the snow at this level was melted, and the road was nice enough for a car to drive on.
We did have a bit of trouble finding the trail, though. A review on this site said that the trail was 0.3 miles from a bridge, so we drove to the bridge, and then turned around and drove back 0.3 miles. This put us in a rocky area with a culvert under the road.
We then found what appeared to be a trail on the uphill side of the road. Basically, if you walk uphill on the right side of the creek, you will get to the falls. Although we could see what appeared to be a makeshift trail, it looked like it hadn't been maintained in years.
When we did get to the falls, we were very impressed! If it had been warmer, we would have liked to take a dip in the pool of water at the base.
If you continue walking up the hill as if you are going to the top of the falls, you will stumble upon an old mine. It is large enough to walk into without any issue. We walked into it a little ways, but chickened out after the first bend. We're not sure how far back it actually goes. Make sure to bring headlamps!
We also found what appeared to be some old mining equipment scraps in the area.
We hope to go back in the future to explore this mine further.

Thanks for being intrepid explorers and scoping this one out. How was the road? I've got a wimpmobile and want to know if I could make it up there.

You should be fine. There wasn't any snow on the road and only a few small potholes.
