Shinglemill Creek trail
We took the ferry from Fauntleroy to Vashon in the morning. Beautiful, calm day on the water. Drove to Shinglemill Creek Preserve upper parking lot and we were the only car there. The 1.5 mile trail starts going downhill through forest of fir, cedar and maples. At one point, the trail is on a short ridge with a ravine on both sides. It continues gradually downhill except for one very short uphill stretch before reaching the beach. Nice trail work with bridges, steps and turnpikes where needed. Tide was way out so walked along the beach and then returned up the trail. Saw a young owl in the trees. After lunch, we also hiked the 1 mile Jed Creek preserve trail located on the Southwest end of the island and then the very short trail to the lighthouse on Maury Island.
