This is definitely not a tennis shoe hike! There were a fair amount of side trails, but if you keep the river to your right and stay on the "main" trail for as long as you can, the path from there gets VERY muddy in places. My friend and I were very grateful for our hiking boots. It was also overgrown for a few stretches were the trail really narrowed, and we navigated over several logs. That said, the falls are beautiful and made the problems worth the destination. Also be aware that there is a creek crossing before the falls. Several logs serve as a "bridge" that I wasn't sure my dog would be willing to cross, but they were steady and she did fine. Would go back again once it's a bit drier!

Bob and Barb on Cherry Creek Falls
Nice photo of the Falls. We are camping with no internet service so I can't do a report on the Lower Mad River until we get home. We did this hike on Sat and thought of you and how much you would enjoy the hike! Lots of flowers and the Tweedy's Lewisia are beautiful and everywhere along the trail! The Mad River is raging! It is a very long drive for a day hike, however!
