Poo Poo Point, High School Trail & Poo Poo Point - Chirico Trail — Sunday, May. 21, 2017

Issaquah Alps > Tiger Mountain
Parasail launching at Poo Poo Point (Gerald Hawkins)

We parked at Issaquah High School and located the trailhead easily. (The 6 spaces at the trailhead were full). There is a bit of easy trail and then a fairly steady up, up, up. The trail was dry and nearly all in great condition. A couple of miles up there was a downed tree to scramble over. We found the mileage to be not quite correct. The length of the trail from the gate to the highest point (about 2000') is 4.6 miles, plus .25 more to the Poo Poo Point lookout / parasail launch. Add .3 for the walk from the school lot and the total is 5.15 miles one-way. After watching the parasails (there were lots of them) for a while I went down the shorter Chirico Trail. This trail was very busy with people of all ages and descriptions. Most of the dogs on Chirico were on leash (as required) but many of the dogs on the High School Trail were rulebreakers, off lead.  The Chirico Trail is much shorter and steeper but does not include any extra up and down. Chirico is well maintained but has rock stepstones much of the way, plus more climbing over roots. There were excellent views of parasails landing at the bottom of Chirico.  The Chirico Trail parking lot ("Poo Poo Point Trailhead" as well as "Tiger Mountain Hang Gliding") is extremely busy. Don't plan on parking there.
