A lot of the trail reports for this hike are a little unnerving, which caused me to delay trying this hike for a while. We did it yesterday, and while it is far from the best hike I've ever done, I don't think it deserves the bad wrap it's gotten here and on AllTrails.
The worst part of the hike is that it is very easy to lose the trail, finding the trailhead off of the logging road was VERY difficult. We used AllTrails to know about where we were supposed to turn off, and then headed uphill. We had no problems with stream crossings, but I believe we avoided the worst of them by heading up the logging road.
The logging road was very hot, my pup was dragging from the heat, even though we started about 9:30. It cooled down once we got under tree cover and it was a nice hike. The last 1/2 mile is very steep, and is where I give the 'difficult/impossible to pass' rating. Otherwise it is just a lot of downed logs. Taking the dog was somewhat stressful, as he got a little freaked about some of the narrow walkways up right before the lake, but all was well in the end, and the lake was gorgeous. Watched a sea plane take off and had lunch, and the trail was much less intimidating on the way down.
I would only recommend for experienced and fit hikers, this trail deserves an 'expert' rating I think.
