Trip Report

Lake 22 — Friday, May. 26, 2017

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

Hiked this with my dog and a friend for the first time and loved it! The parking lot was full on Friday before noon. A few bugs but not bad. Overall the trail is in good condition. The only obstacles included a large stump, a couple of downed trees over the trail, one section that was eroded, and some snow at the end of the trail by the lake. Trekking poles definitely helped for the last section! Also be aware that there is a rocky stretch, but we were able to navigate it fine. A few small streams as well, that posed no problem.

My only complaint was there were a lot of dogs off leash. While they were all friendly, my dog is very skittish when she can't move away from dogs that approach her. She almost fell off the trail a couple of times, and I almost got knocked over a few times because of off leash dogs. Please mind the leash laws!

The view of the snow covered lake was breath taking! Pictures really don't do it justice. Would absolutely recommend this hike!
