Our group backpacked East Bank of Ross Lake over the Memorial Day weekend.
Day 1: After stopping in Marblemount for a group backcountry permit we headed out from the trailhead about 10:30 AM, reaching Roland Creek about 3 PM. This included several breaks, lunch, bathroom breaks, numerous downed trees (all manageable but time consuming), creek crossings (not difficult, included balancing on rocks or logs). Then headed west to reach our camp at McMillan with plenty of time for a dip before dinner.
Day 2: Boy Scouts day hiked to Devil's Creek/Junction area, about 12 miles RT for lunch and a swim.
Day 3: Left McMillan Camp at 9 AM, a couple breaks, slow crossing downed trees, returned to car at 1 PM.
Notes:
Roland Creek crossing you can choose to remove your shoes or head up creek past the big log spanning the creek to a cluster of downed trees which made for an easy crossing.
McMillan Campground is a boat-in campground, backpackers can follow the beach or game trails for access. Note trails are not marked. (Same with Roland Point, Spencer, etc.) Bear boxes, picnic tables and a vault toilet.
Animals signs of bear in camp - no sightings, lots of white tail deer, a raven, a couple mice in camp, lots of fish in the lake.
