Heather Lake — Sunday, May. 28, 2017

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Heather Lake

Heather Lake is beautiful but it's a little work to get there. We went early so we didn't have that tough of a time going up but coming back down the trail was getting really muddy. I hiked with two dogs and both were covered in mud when we got back to the trail head. There were a lot of young kids hiking who were also covered in mud.

Road to get to the trail head has a lot of pot holes. A normal car could drive over them jut be careful, there are some really big ones there.

At the top there is still snow. The lake isn't iced over but you will have to walk through a good amount of snow to get to the lake, so just be prepared. Once you are arrive at the lake be a little cautious with your steps. It's possible to walk around the lake (I did) but there are a lot of areas where there isn't anything under the snow and a leg might fall through. Again just be a little cautious and watch where you step.

The lake is beautiful and the hike up really wasn't that rough. A great day hike for the family as long as you don't mind a little mud coming home.
