This is one of my new favorite hikes! There were three great views of Rainier on the way up. The upper Lake actually reminded me of Colchuck Lake in the Enchantments. On a much smaller scale, but definitely similar.
The trail is in excellent shape, only one patch of snow over the trail that will be gone shortly. Lots of shade in the first couple miles, and then it is pretty open.
We got there about 10, and there was still parking, but not many spaces in the lot. By the time we got done, cars were lined up in 410. Get there early, but it didn't seem like a lot of people were on the trail.
My GPS came up with 7 miles from start to finish, with the side trip to the
Lower Lake and some wandering at the Upper Lake.
I can't wait to go back and hike this trail again, along with Crystal Peak! We also want to go for an overnight up there. Site one on the lower Lake seemed very peaceful!
