Crystal Lake — Sunday, Jul. 2, 2017

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway

The road is blocked off where these two trails begin. The road has a few potholes but other than that easy to drive. The first couple of miles are on an old logging road now a trail, a little over grown in places and muddy, but not bad. The last mile or so begins with a steep trail. 1/3 up the steep climb you can stop at a nice little area by a beautiful water fall. My son and I had a little lunch there. Continuing up the trail it evens out and you come to a sign that say "Glacier Peak Wilderness". There are two very large tree that have fallen across the path. Go around the root side and you will see the trail again. Continue on a short distance and you will come to the valley and then the lake. You will be glad that you made the choice to continue up the steep trail.

There were large patches of snow around the lake. We were able to get to the farside of the lake.
