Wanted to try the Salmo-Priest Loop, but there was a decent-sized wildfire in the area, so I made a last minute change to try this one out instead.
Did this as an overnight, as my water supply ran dry earlier than expected, and there weren't any decent streams to get water from until the very end of the trek. Went counter-clockwise from the Jungle Hill campground.
Hiked around 3 or 4 miles the first day, had an angry osprey dive bombing my dog and I for a mile or 2 as we neared the first camp...we were clearly too close to comfort. Bugs were pretty bad, but we were also camped not far from a mountain-top swamp, so it was to be somewhat expected.
Did nearly 10 miles on the second day. Great descent, with flowers all in bloom, and the weather was good.
Trail in great shape, only huckleberries that were ready were in the last mile or so (south of the Jungle Hill campground). Lots of deer, a few pikas. Signs of bears, wolves, coyotes, but never encountered any. Never saw another soul until the final mile. Nice little trek, and I was impressed at the condition of the trail.
