First, there were several cars broken into this weekend. A reminder to bring everything important with you, especially if you're staying overnight!
Gothic Basin is a beautiful hike that I would highly recommend for a backpacking trip. The first half of the trail is full of switchbacks as you navigate through the trees, but the second half opens up to views of the North Cascades. The trail is a bit rougher here, but we saw parties of all ages and sizes manage it.
Overall, the hike is not the easiest (or hardest) in the area. However, while physically demanding, it is worth it in the end.

oh NO!! was yours the jeep that got smashed? my toyota was smashed and grabbed. locals/cops found it pretty quick. But so so sad.

I'm sorry to hear they got you too! I had a Nissan down a ways from trailhead -- but reports of shattered windows and thefts stretched all the way from Lake 22 to Gothic Basin. Looks like they made a full night of it.
Hope nothing too valuable was taken!
