Trip Report

Spider Meadow and Phelps Basin — Thursday, Jul. 27, 2017

Central Cascades > Stevens Pass - East

Flowers in the lower meadow are in full bloom. Upper part of lower meadow flowers are still coming out, so you have a few weeks to enjoy the flowers. PLEASE do not tramp thru the meadows; stay on the trails.

Please don't plan on camping at the meadows on Saturday night. There were only a few campsites left on Thursday. The creek is running full and cannot be easily crossed at this time, so the campsites on the other side are probably out. DO NOT camp in the meadows (i.e. do not put your tent down on anything green). Camping would be horrible here, anyway, due to the biting flies.

If you want to camp, there are several very nice campgrounds on the way up the Chiwawa. You can then bring the hibachi, and a cooler of beer, and not have to set up your tent 3 feet from your fellow campers. And the bugs are not bad in the campgrounds. AND you can contribute a little to the USFS budget to  help pay for needed road upgrades.  Thanks and ENJOY!
