Fabulous hike. How many ways can you describe glorious fields of wildflowers, intense blue skies and stunning mountain vistas. Bugs weren't too bad; took mosquito netting but did not need. However used repellent at the beginning of the hike, which seemed to work well.
If you want to go further than the meadows, bring traction devices. We tried going over the snowfields and it was just too much work to keep from slipping.
Road is just awful. Not too many potholes but the washboarding is horrifically bone-jarring and exhausting, even for a heavy-duty SUV.
Besides the road, the only other negative about this hike is the climb back out at the end. So leave some energy for that.
