Hidden Lake Lookout — Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017

North Cascades > North Cascades Highway - Hwy 20

This TrailDude headed North with a Meetup on a smoky Sunday. The road to the trailhead is 4 miles of potholes and bumps. There are several blind turns and fewer turnouts for passing than you'd like. It is doable with most cars but I would recommend a high clearance vehicle.

The trail starts off in forest and begins climbing immediately on a very nicely maintained trail. After a while you break out into a meadow full of wildflowers and the trail narrows. There is a stretch of slope, sandy tread that can be challenging, especially with the heat and bugs. You don't want to stop moving for long lest you become a feast for biting flies. When you catch sight of the lookout, you are about 45 minutes away. Most people will want to stay left when confronted with the scramble. There is trail almost the entire way to the top. If it looks like you have no choice but to scramble, look again.

Grump count: 3 unleashed dogs, 1 bro playing music on speakers.

Happy trails!
