Trip Report

Grand Park via Lake Eleanor — Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
Grand Park

Road was just fine for almost any vehicle you could think of.  Some washboarding and minor potholes, but nothing that's unexpected from a forest service road.

The trail was in good condition overall and went by quickly.  Couple muddy spots near the start, and a handful of small blowdowns between Lake Eleanor and the first meadow.

Saw a couple of campers in the first meadow camping on the grass...Try to stick to established campsites folks.

I started my hike late purposely to get the sweet light from Grand Park proper, as well as a night photo I had been envisioning all week.

Final thing to note - I did spook one elk on the way in, that spooked me back when it tore through the underbrush about 30 feet from me.  On the way out I heard some unexplained yowling.

I was just here on Saturday as well! So much bear scat and tracks all over the place, very cool about the elk sighting (other than it being terrifying of course).
